A face lift can help such individuals restore youthful vibrance and energy to the face. The effects of time are virtually undone to restore an individual’s face and to remove many of the effects of time and aging. A plastic surgeon accomplishes such effects by working with wrinkles, tightening the skin, removing fat deposits, and by tightening the underlying muscles of the face. This not only helps to restore the physical appearance of the patient, but also restores self-confidence and respect to the patient.

A facelift can be used to treat problem areas around the face such as jowls and hanging skin. The goal is to make you look ten to fifteen years younger without changing your overall appearance. In order to maintain a natural look, some doctors prefer to use endoscopic techniques that limit incision size and visibility.

Facelifts are often combined with a brow lift to create better harmony of the facial structures. For the same reason, laser resurfacing is often offered to reduce fine wrinkles around the mouth; a facelift corrects sagging and deep wrinkles.

For several days after surgery, you may experience tightness of the neck, numbness of the skin, and swelling. Home care, which we can help you arrange, is often recommended after surgery.

The goal of a facelift is to reshape and sculpt a new jaw and neck line and lift the jowls for a very natural look. The goal for a mini-lift is to simply remove the jowls by lifting them. The goal for a neck lift is to sculpt only the neck fat without removal of any skin or jowls. The neck lift is not performed if there are jowls present that need to be addressed. The S-Lift is a mini-lift.

Today many facelift options are appealing to men and women of various ages. Patients often will ask what is the best age for a facelift. That varies on an individual basis, as every face ages differently. Some patients opt to do a little bit of surgery in their early 40’s while others wait and decide to do more of a major surgery in their 50’s and 60’s. Overall, the most important goal is to rejuvenate the patient and produce the most natural outcome, without appearing as if you have had surgery.

The neck lift procedure is designed for people who have excess fat around the neck, but have good skin tone and are not yet ready for a full face-neck lift. This operation includes liposuction of the neck, manual removal of fat underneath the muscles and tightening of the neck muscles under the chin. Excess skin cannot be removed with this procedure. If excess skin is the problem then a full face-neck lift should be done.

A one inch incision is placed just under the chin, and the skin is elevated off of the fat and muscle. A 3mm cushion of fat is left on the skin, and then liposuction is used to remove all of the remaining fat down to the muscle. De-fatting the neck is also done by manually removing fat from underneath the platysma muscle. Once the fat is removed, the muscles are tightened and any neck cords are released.

The incision is then closed with 3-4 sutures. Drains are also used to remove any excess fluid or blood and are removed in 1 or 2 days after the surgery.

Do you look in the mirror and wonder “Wow, when did my jaw line and neck start to sag so much? And where did these wrinkles come from?” Do you ask yourself, “I feel 30…why do I look 60?” If so, you are not alone. A majority of patients who come see me have asked themselves the same questions and feel exactly the same way. With time my patients notice they start feeling older because of the way their face has aged. Aging of the lower face and neck is one of the first changes we notice. The firm jaw line and smooth chiseled neck of youth get replaced by sagging jowls and redundant neck skin and fat. The good news is, of all the age-related changes, these are the ones that are the easiest to restore.

Many people are afraid of the facelift because of the downtime, risks, and potential of looking too pulled or unnatural. Many of these considerations apply to traditional and outdated face-lifts. The new generation face-lift is less invasive and refined and allows patients to recover quickly, while achieving excellent natural and lasting results. These procedures can be done without general anesthesia, further decreasing the cost and the risk. As a result of these qualities, these procedures have had extremely high levels of satisfaction.

When the facial aging process begins to take place and the face is sometimes out of harmony with the eyelids or forehead, some patients become self-conscious. And when patients state that they look older than they truly feel or their friends tell them that they look tired and not well rested, a facelift or a neck lift is performed. The face/neck lift is a very popular procedure done frequently in the United States and it is in the top 1/3 in popularity of all cosmetic procedures performed on the face. The facelift procedure is done for cosmetic reasons, and it is a procedure that is done on the face and neck to rejuvenate the face. This procedure tightens up lax facial skin, neck skin and muscles, jowls, and addresses neck fat as well. It also tightens the muscles in the face, the posterior portion of the neck and the front portion of the neck. Excess skin is removed around the ears and fat is removed underneath the neck.
